Experienced Fishers Day Care
The design and set up of a preschool room is a core piece of our curriculum. The learning environment is critical to supporting children’s developmental needs and growth. The room is set up according to 10 interest areas – blocks, dramatic play, toys and games, art, library, discovery, sand and water, music and movement, cooking, and computers (with educational games). These 10 areas are organized around the 6 learning components in which children are developed and assessed — literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts, and technology.
Interest areas are structured to offer opportunities for both quiet and active play, while promoting cooperation between children, and allowing them to organize their time. We encourage children to use their imaginations and to make their own decisions. Our Fishers Day Care focus on the social skills of the children and the interaction between children as they become more involved with each other and their environment. The children work individually, in small groups, and as a class each day.
The program recognizes that children learn best by doing. We provide a variety of stimulating, hands-on experiences, all designed to support their development and growth. Activities include a variety of components such as language, number recognition, developing listening skills, science experiments, matching and sorting, and sequencing. We also engage our little students in creative play, cooking activities, music and movement, fine and gross motor activities, and writing and reading exercises. Every day starts off with circle time, which includes songs, music, show & tell, poems, and group discussions.
The design of our classroom allows for structure, yet also allows enough autonomy for children to develop through discovery in their play based learning environment. At the same time, they learn how to share, function in a group, follow directions, learn appropriate behaviors for different activities, focus on and complete tasks and achieve his/her goals.
Our program goals go beyond the Indiana State learning standards, ensuring that The Tot Spot curriculum builds the skills that children need for future academic success. Above all else, we are responsive to children’s varying needs and abilities, which builds each child’s confidence and instills a love for learning!
Age specific assessments will be filled out and discussed to provide the opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss goals for each child at our Fishers Day Care.
